I write because 300 or so titans have been lost recently in Botswana, elephants that died not at the hand of man, to poachers, but to something just as insidious — irrevocable change in the climate of the world.
CLIMATE CHANGE: Polar bears are listed as vulnerable by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, but they should be classified as endangered — if the ice completely goes, they will disappear forever. A central light, a being of unbelievable strength and grace, a central soul at the top of the world will be no more. A key measure of why we are here on Earth will have vanished.
The presence of lions evokes a sense of wonder and an antediluvian shudder. Lions impressed Lysander to call them “the ghosts in the grass.” They are regal in appearance, power and courage like few species on earth.
The world of Blade Runner is around the corner. Wake up or children will have nothing to look forward to. Not elephants, not slugs, not anything. For those parents who say this may be a concern of yours, but it isn’t ours. Right. Beware of those parents. After Hurricanes Irma and Harvey, there has never been a better time to wake up.
